1. KP Street - Summer Graffiti Showcase

July 1-3: KP Street - Summer Graffiti Showcase

All summer long, Kerry Parkside will transform into KP Street - a place that celebrates vibrant street culture with festivities like DJ competitions and basketball tournaments. Things kick off this weekend with a massive graffiti showcase featuring 50 domestic and 8 international artists doing their thing live. There will be workshops all weekend giving primers on the art, as well as music from the Yeti crew to give it that extra block party feel.

2. Shanghai Young Art Fair

July 1–4: Shanghai Young Art Fair

Following its successful launch last year, this art fair for emerging or undiscovered artists returns to take over Shanghai Exhibition Center. More than 200 artists under the age of 45 from all over China will take part.
July 1-4, 2-9pm, 10am-6pm, 10am-2pm, RMB60-120 (RMB198 for four day pass).Shanghai Exhibition Centre, see event listing.


3. Xu Cong: Technological Spectacle

Xu Cong: Technological Spectacle

The always interesting Basement 6 welcomes the Wuhan graduated new media artist , who will show off his latest works exploring antiquated aspects of life. Expect everything from live performances to sound art.
July 2-13. Basement 6.


4. John Young: Storm Resurrection

John Young: Storm Resurrection

The Hong Kong born, Australia based artist presents three series of works at Pearl Lam. In his newest series Storm Resurrection, Young manipulates original paintings by members of China’s first modern art association, the Storm Society, creating abstract works that are then oil painted faithfully onto linen. Naïve and Sentimental Paintings introduces Young’s style that melds contemporary technology with oil painting techniques that reference early Western Modernist paintings. Opening reception on July 2 from 5-7pm preceded by artist talk from 3.30-4.30pm.

5. In Between Days VI

In Between Days VI

Art + Shanghai’s sixth annual summer exhibition celebrates a wide range of the gallery’s favorite artists with works spanning painting, sculpture and photography. Participants include Chen Linggang, Cindy Ng, Lin Weixiang,  Luo Dan, Ma Yongqiang, Seungmo Park, Shen Hua, Tamen (see image above) and Zhang Wen.
July 3-Aug 30. Art + Shanghai.


6. Fanatic Automation

Fanatic Automation

Liu Dao’s latest exhibit explores the world’s increasing automation while exploring how that affects human’s capacities to “get themselves both into, and out of, some of the strangest predicaments imaginable.”
